A Healthy Planet is Priceless

Climate change is burning the earth of today and the future of tomorrow

What is climate change?

Climate change is a phenomenon that has been occurring for centuries, but has become increasingly more prominent in recent years. It is a global phenomenon that affects all aspects of the environment, from the atmosphere to the oceans, and has a wide range of impacts on human life.

Climate change is caused by a variety of factors, including human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and agricultural practices. These activities release large amounts of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat from the sun, causing the Earth’s temperature to rise. This rise in temperature is known as global warming, and it has a wide range of effects on the environment.

The temperature is rising

One of the most significant effects of climate change is the rise in sea levels. As the Earth’s temperature rises, the polar ice caps and glaciers melt, causing the sea levels to rise. This can have a devastating effect on coastal communities, as rising sea levels can lead to flooding, erosion, and other forms of damage.

Climate change also affects the weather patterns around the world. Warmer temperatures can lead to more extreme weather events, such as droughts, floods, and hurricanes. These events can cause significant damage to infrastructure, crops, and human lives.

The effects of climate change are not limited to the environment. It can also have a significant impact on human health. Warmer temperatures can lead to an increase in air pollution, which can cause respiratory illnesses and other health problems. Additionally, extreme weather events can lead to displacement and loss of life.

End global warming before it ends you

In order to combat climate change, it is important to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere. This can be done by reducing the use of fossil fuels, increasing the use of renewable energy sources, and improving energy efficiency. Additionally, it is important to protect and restore natural ecosystems, such as forests and wetlands, which can help to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The United Nations has introduced 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to tackle climate change. An example of a goal is “Climate Action”, which is their 13th goal. Within this goal, their target is to...

“Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning”.

This infers that they aim to increase awareness for humanity, especially at a young age, in order for us to understand the damaging impact that climate change has on the environment. Improving education about climate action could be done by adding this to the national education policies, curricula, teacher education and student assessment. Furthermore, working towards this goal could suggest that people will become less desensitised from climate change just because it does not directly affect human beings.

In addition, another way to reduce climate change is to invest in the use of public transport more but use less cars. This strategy would prevent journeys that are needless as it would lead to a reduction in congestion, air pollution and emissions. It has been proven that a single double decker bus can replace 75 cars. Alongside this, trains remove 20,000 lorries from the rise each day. Public transport services such as Transport for London could encourage the use of public transport by fixing their fares in order for more people to travel by train. Rail fairs have increased by 132% since 1997. This denotes that people are less willing to take train due to the cost of living crisis. It is vital for the government to decrease train fairs due to the fact that the railway has a significant role in achieving net zero targets. Moreover, reducing the fairs of rail tickets may increase revenue as well as passengers since people may feel that the pricing is more fair.

Climate change is a complex phenomenon that has a wide range of impacts on the environment and human life. It is important to take action to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere, and to protect and restore natural ecosystems. By doing so, we can help to mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure a more sustainable future for generations to come.
